Kevin Myers spoke in the middle two sessions and on Friday he dropped some more bombs on us. He continued on marriage. Here are some interesting points he made.
- You cannot live life solely in the fast lane.
- Most of life is lived in the mundane lame.
- If you dont realize that life WILL involve mundane lame then you will move from relationship to relationship, marrage to marriage, church to church, etc, etc
- Jay Feely an NFL kicker said, “I practiced 1000 hours to get 38 seconds of actualy playing time.”
- We need to make deposits weekly (i.e. date nights)
- The account that has the most withdrawals needs to most deposits.
- Myers said, “We have decided to have no true friendships with people who disrespect our spouse…it is a sabotage to our marriage.”
- When divorce is NOT an option you learn to live in the mundane
- We have to own our baggage.
- We dont have to like our baggage but we must own it.
- Our baggage explains us but it DOES NOT excuse us.
- Your calendar should respect your spouse.
- We need to pray prevention NOT just intervention.
- Its hard to keep your heart hard when you are praying for your spouse.
- Never bring an issue to your spouse before you take it to the Lord.
- His final quesiton was, “Are you gonna be soulmates or roommates?” Daggum!
Needless to say it was awesome hearing from Myers during those two days. He had some pretty intense stuff. He made it clear that this wasn’t a pep talk on marriage but it was something to think about to give our marrages muscle! It worked. I walked away with some serious thoughts on how to gain muscle in my marriage. I hope these things challenege you like they challenged me.
