Speak up and Step up

I saw Jesus yesterday.  He looked different than I imagined.  He was in the form of around 10 people.  They were all from Calvary.  You see Jesus took the form of people yesterday and acted in some extravagant love.  We have been talking all about Extravagant Love @Calvary Wesleyan: Loving God, Loving Others, Loving Life.  That has been our motto for the past year and it has been awesome to see.  What I saw yesterday was around 10 people being the hands and feet of Jesus.  We went and helped move a 550 pound man.  He lived in a single wide trailor in one room.  The floors were rotten and the stinch was horrid.  I can smell it now as I think about it.  A cool quote that an elderly lady from our church, she said, “You know, think about how bad it stinks in there.  Well, that was nothing compared to how bad our sins must have stunk to Jesus when he died on the cross.”  Dude, that got me fired up!  That lady got it.  She is in her mid 60′s and she still loves Jesus with all her heart.

What makes this story sad is that not only is the man 550 pounds, he can hardly move around.  He was living in a single wide trailor and no more than 20 feet away from the trailor was a house that he owned.  He had owned the house for 3 or 4 years but had never had anybody to help him make the move.  When I heard that my mind was blown.  There is so much injustice around that it is sickening.  I know, some of us may be quick to say he is wayyyy overweight and it is his fault but you know Jesus didnt make any exceptions when people came to him.

Moral of the story is this.  God puts people in the right situation at the right time.  A lady in our church delivers meals of wheels and she went and visited Mr Meredith.  When she left there she thought to herself thats just not right.  No one should have to live in that.  Then, she spoke up.  She told people about the injustice that was happening on Sugar Stick Road.  After she spoke up people stepped up.

So that leads me to believe that if we start speaking up then people will start stepping up.  As leaders, we have to call people to a higher standard, we have to show people the needs that are around us.  Unless we do we cannot get upset or angry when people DO NOTHING.  Did you hear that?  Unless we call people to a higher standard then we cant get mad when people DO NOTHING.  Its simple.  I think people honestly want to help, people honestly want to make things right, but they have no idea where to start.  Trust me I know it is frustrating as leaders.  That is why we are leaders because we see things that need to be done and we do them.  But we are NOT all leaders.  Some people have to be shown the way.  Unfortunately, some people have to have their hand held.  So I will leave you with this, leaders, speak up so that people can step up.
